Badugi is possibly the most unique variety of poker game, played with low hands with a very original hand rankings.
Badugi is played by a maximum of 6 players. The aim of the Badugi is to hold the lowest possible combination without having any cards of equal denomination and any cards from the same colour.
A combination with 4 cards of different ranks and colors is referred to as a badugi. The perfect low Badugi hand therefore is ace, two, three, four all unsuited.
But Badugi combination can consist of four, three, two or just one card.
Badugi Betting. Badugi can be played as a fixed limit game, a pot limit game, in the more rare half-pot limit betting structure and no limit badugi.
In a limit Badugi, the higher bets starts on the third of the 4 betting rounds. A pot limit game allows the gamblers to stake up to the size of the actual pot.
In a half-pot limit, the higher stake in any stage is equivalent to 50 percent of the pot value.
No limit game does not employ any betting limits.
Blinds. Badugi is played with obligatory betting known as a Big Blind (BB) and a Small Blind (SB). Before the cards are dealt the first two persons to the dealer’s left position must post the small blind and the big blind.
The small blind is usually equal to half of the big blind.
Betting and drawing round. When the blinds are placed, the dealer deals each of the participating persons four dark cards in a clockwise direction beginning from the SB.
When the players have own four cards, the 1st betting round, known as the pre-draw round, starts with the first player seated to the left of the big blind.
Each player have the same rights as the other form of poker game which includes: bet, raise, call, fold.
When pre-draw betting is finish, all players are given the opportunity to discard. Remaining players replaces from zero to four cards from their combinations.
Once all players have received their new cards, the another betting round starts, beginning with the first persons to the left of the dealer and moving clockwise.
In total, there are 4 betting rounds and three possibilities to replace cards.
Showdown. At the showdown, the active player with the combination with a lower value takes the pot.
This also happens if two or more opponents have the same denomination hands, the money will be shared between them.
