The main principle of Let It Ride is not only to assemble
a winning hand, but try to guess beforehand whether the two
hole cards held by the dealer can be of any help to make up
a paying combination. The gambling house has an edge of 3.5%
which leaves a certain chance to win if you follow optimal
Let It Ride strategies. The game has two milestones where
you are to take a decision either to leave the bet in play,
i.e. Let It Ride, or not. As in any casino gamble, Let It
Ride strategies can be drawn mathematically and recommend
the advisable steps to minimize possible risks. Here they
are:
Optimal Strategy
When you decide whether to let your first bet
ride, examine your hand and go for it if you have:
- Any winning hand (a Pair of 10s or better, Three of a kind)
- Three cards of a Royal Flush
- Three successive cards of a Straight Flush with 3 being
the lowest
- Three non-successive cards to a Straight Flush but with
one hole only, and at least one high card (a 10 or better)
- Three non-successive cards to a Straight Flush, with at
least two high cards.
You can let your second bet ride if you have:
- A winning hand (a Pair of 10s or higher, Three of a kind,
Four of a Kind)
- Four cards to a Royal Flush, a Straight Flush or a Flush
- Four successive cards to a Straight with an open end
- Four non-successive cards to a Straight, with four high
cards.
No bonus bets.
Though gambling houses usually offer much higher payoffs for
a side bonus bets, never make a bonus wager. It makes the
casino®s edge skyrocket up to 30% and is the worst bet you
can place!
Play within the payout limits.
Use a simple rule of thumb to calculate the maximum bet which
is worth playing. In a casino you will never be paid more
than allowed by the payout limits. Thus, imagine that you
get a Royal Flush with all three bets riding. Divide the top
prize for a Royal Flush by one thousand (as it pays 1000:1),
then by three (if all your bets are playing), and see the
maximum amount worth playing.
Strategy and house edge
Like blackjack and video poker, player decisions in this game affect the house edge. The strategy outlined below assumes the standard payout structure shown above. With correct strategy, the casino's edge in Let It Ride is about 3.5%.
When deciding whether or not to let bet (1) ride, you should pull your bet back unless you have one of the following:
- Any paying hand. (A pair of tens or better.)
- Any three cards to a royal flush.
- Any three suited connectors where the lowest card is three or above.
- Three to a straight flush, spread four, with at least one card that's ten or higher.
- Three to a straight flush, spread five, with at least two cards ten or higher.
When deciding whether or not to let bet (2) ride, you should pull your bet back unless you have one of the following:
- Any paying hand. (A pair of tens or better.)
- Any four to a flush.
- Any four to an outside straight.
- Any four to an inside straight, if the four cards are ten or higher.
An outside straight is a draw to a straight that can be completed by two different cards, like 4-5-6-7. Any 3 and any 8 will complete the straight. There are eight cards in the deck that will complete an outside straight draw.
An inside straight is a draw to a straight that can only be completed by one specific card, like 4-5-6-8. Any 7 will complete the straight. There are only four cards in the deck that will complete an inside straight draw.
